David Cousley: Series 02 - Episode 08

Master Woodmaker David Cousley, joins us for episode eight of ten from our second series.

For episode eight, David; who is based in County Monaghan, Ireland, speaks to us about his making journey to mastering the craft of wood-making.

David works on a range of products; including furniture, his Beetle boxes (above) to whimsical hand-carved characters.

'I am interested in making sculptural work which explores a simplicity of line and form, while looking for symmetry and balance. 


My working methods have an affinity to vernacular woodworking techniques. Folk carving & primitive sculpture are also an influence; with their directness of approach to both materials and method.'
